For an attractant to perform, or in this case outperform, it needs to consist of a totally balanced formula that renders itself extremely palatable and completely digestible to a ruminant. It is the palatability that draws them back at first, but it is the digestibility along with key essential key vitamins and nutrients that play a huge factor in the continual effectiveness of a product. Set all of those things together, and you will keep the ruminant coming back, again, and again, and yet again. That is what truly dictates the actual “PULL" that an attractant has to that specific animal. The animals' dietary systems and nutritional needs determine what each individual animal craves.
From our research, an incorrect protein level, i.e. too high, will eventually lead to a "burnout effect" of the animals' dietary system. If the digestibility of a product is not there, exactly the same will happen and the animal will not be able to utilize everything it is taking in. Will it attract them? Most of the time it will, but not for long. Have you ever eaten a spoonful of cocoa powder? The first will taste ok, but by the second, you're looking for a glass of milk to attempt to get that spoonful down. Then, the high levels of cocoa hit you and you don’t even want to see chocolate again for quite some time. The same concept applies to how mature deer relate to most attractants that are available on the market now.
Our philosophy does not consist of jamming the deer full of protein for “growing big antlers”, which is the main focus on many labels that you see on the shelves. At J2 we understand the amount of protein, vitamins, and minerals that it takes to grow big antlers and the timeframe in which it has to be available to a specific animal during the growing season to make a real difference. Instead, we chose to focus on making the most desirable and beneficial formula that we can in order to get the mature deer and hogs to crave more and more of our product. Even though it is not very detectable to the human nose, the Berry smell that is reminiscent of the wild berries that wild deer and hogs devour stands out big time to animals that depend on their sense of smell to survive. This initially draws their attention, but the palatability and digestibility of Blend is what becomes so beneficial to them and what they begin to CRAVE over time.
We will let the other professionals worry about how to "grow" big deer because we are in the business of "killing" big old mature deer, and we do that extremely well with the J2 Berry Blend.
